CLARIFY (Stage 1 to Getting Organized)

CLARIFY is the first stage to organizing

The first stage of organizing is CLARIFY. You need to get clear on what you really want and need before you start so you’ll end up where you want to be at the end of your organizing project.

Get your pencil (or pen) and paper out. Yes, I want you to do this old school. Pick a project you want to do or one you've had on your to-do list for a while.

OK, if you refuse to go old school, then go ahead and type your answers in your favorite note taking app, but get the answers down in writing. Thinking about them isn't enough. Answer them!

What’s your Project? _____________________________

  1. How would you like the finished project to look? Use colors, textures, sounds, smells and movement to describe it.

  2. What will you be able to do when you're finished that you aren't able to do now?

  3. What will you get from the completed project? Will you have more room, more energy, more time, more connection with others, less stress, easier access?

  4. What problems do you want to solve?

  5. What level of organization would be sufficient or enough? Does it need to meet Architectural Digest standards or would 'not having to step over the pile' be good enough?

  6. When would you like the project finished? Keep in mind, that if it's been on your list for several years, you don't need it done by next week.

  7. Are you willing and able to work on this in small steps over time?

  8. Is this something you wanted years ago? If so, does it still fit your current lifestyle choices?
